Orlando Magic Celebrate Black History Month
The Orlando Magic is proud to celebrate February as Black History Month.
The African-American experience is an important anchor to our nation’s history. Etched for all time, and in our hearts, are testimonies of bravery and courage in the midst of an unyielding storm. In this young century, children from every race and background learn of the legendary tales of men and women who spent their lives in pursuit of freedom and equality.
It has been said, “So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”…Christopher Reeves. Our community stands on the shoulders of giants past and the call of this generation is to accomplish together the vision of an inclusive society, and to pursue the dream of a more perfect union.
African-Americans have taught our nation and our community a great deal about faith, hope, conviction and conscience. Every citizen has come to appreciate what it means to share each other’s burdens and comfort those who stand in need of comfort. And together we heed the call to march forward, inseparable in our bond, and with tolerance as our guide, towards a city of hope and a community at peace.
During Black History Month we are reminded of our call to never turn back. Our mission is clear: to always look ahead with faith and courage, so those who come behind us might find us faithful and true to the calling of our time. We understand that working together through many different voices, backgrounds and cultures is where our greatest opportunity for success lies.
The Orlando Magic recognizes and appreciates the many contributions of African- Americans past, present and future. It’s a privilege for us to join the nation in celebration during this joyous time.
