Sixers to teach children King's message of peace at MLK Day matinee - 1/13/2012

PHILADELPHIA, PA – JANUARY 13, 2012 – The Philadelphia 76ers will honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during their special matinee game at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, January 16 when they host the Milwaukee Bucks at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are still available online at SIXERS.COM, by phone at 215-339-7676 or at the Wells Fargo Center box office.

Prior to tip-off, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the Sixers will help children from Philadelphia-area after school programs express their views on peace through artwork, poetry and discussing what peace can mean for their communities. The workshops will be led by local art teacher Carlie Enlow, Just Greg of the Philly Youth Poetry Movement and Kharisma McIlwaine of the CW Network, respectively. [NOTE: This pregame event is not open to the public.]

During the game, the team will honor King through a video in which Sixers players provide one word to describe him and his work.

The Sixers will also celebrate one of their longstanding community programs, Sixers Neighborhood Basketball League (SNBL) during the game. At halftime, two SNBL teams will play on the Wells Fargo Center court. After the game, Sixers Assistant Coach Brian James and rookies Nikola Vucevic and Lavoy Allen will lead children in the league in an on-court basketball clinic. [NOTE: The postgame clinic is not open to the public.]

SNBL is a youth recreation league conducted by the Philadelphia Department of Recreation that annually offers more than 4,000 girls and boys an opportunity to participate in an organized basketball league at one of 20 Department of Recreation facilities throughout Philadelphia.

The Sixers are offering fan-friendly prices in January. All upper-level seats are $17.76 or less, and all ticket fees for those seats are waived if purchased online at SIXERS.COM.
